С 1976 по 1981 гг. был помощником профессора по религиоведению университета Северной Каролины. С 1981 по 1986 гг. адъюнкт-профессор по религиоведению университета Северной Каролины, с 1987 г. - профессор. С 1991 по 1998 гг. профессор по еврейским Священным текстам университета Нотр Дам, Индиана. С 1998 г. профессор богословия университета Нотр Дам.
